Greenlee Rifle Handling Courses

The following courses can be held at a time to suit you with a minimum of two people.

One day course

This is a course to suit the novice in the use of Centre fire rifles. The course includes - basic law - Safe rifle handling - practical shooting on the range.

It is not necessary to own a rifle, the estate rifles can be made available.

Cost: £135.00

Two day course

This is a more in depth course to suit the novice in the use of centre fire rifles or for those intending to take DSC level 1.

The course includes - Law - ballistics - safe rifle handling in the field - technique - practical shooting on the range.

The course can accommodate up to 4 people and includes one nights accommodation with dinner, bed, breakfast and a light lunch on both days at Greenlee.

It is not necessary to own a rifle, the estate rifles can be made available. Cost: £325.00

Greenlee Introduction to Deer Stalking

A popular introduction course for the novice that starts with an afternoon session covering:-
Ballistics, shot placement, identification of species, rifle safety in the field and a practical shooting test.

DBB accommodation overnight and then the next morning out deer stalking. Followed on your return by a stalkers breakfast

Cost: £245.00 per person

Course group at the new training centreDSC level 1 courses and assessment

Greenlee Sustainable Deer Managements’ DSC level 1 courses and assements are held regularly throughout the year in our purpose-built training centre. Each course lasts two and a half days, with the assessment normally carried out on the last day. The training courses are staffed by qualified, experienced people who manage deer professionally.

Each course is run with a minimum of 5 and up to a maximum of 8 candidates. This gives Greenlee its unique friendly atmosphere, as well as enabling us to run a properly focussed course resulting in high success rates.

A candidate taking the practical shooting testIf you have a group who want to take the qualification we can arrange a course, with dates to suit your group, either during the week or at weekends.

Candidates do not need to own a rifle - they are welcome to use the estate rifle facility.

The assessment day consists of five parts:

  1. Written assessment: 50 multi choice questions on all aspects of deer.
  2. Visual assessment: 20 colour slides identifying the 6 species of deer in the UK
  3. A candidate winning the Greenlee best zero trophySafety assessment: Simulated stalk, with rifle.
  4. Shooting assessment: Practical shooting test.
  5. Meat hygiene assessment: 40 multi choice questions on the large game handling regulations. This enables the award of trained hunter (large game) status to successful candidates.

Whilst all relevant information will be fully covered during the course, to gain the maximum benefit, candidates are expected to fully read the training manual prior to the course.

Cost of the course is £330.00 per person for this two and a half days course. This includes the training manual, tea/coffee breaks and a light lunch. Limited, high quality accommodation is available.

Full and comprehensive training given by an accredited witness toward the completion of DSC level 2

Jon Snowdon is an accredited witness for the Deer Stalking Certificate level two qualification and is happy to take anyone through the procedures needed to achieve the award of level two, from the field work to the finished carcass in the larder. Any deerstalking outings can be included in the guest's level two portfolio enabling the guest to build up the performance criteria needed to achieve the award of level two.

All the training is carried out in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
