DSC level 1 courses and assessment
Greenlee Sustainable Deer Managements’ DSC level 1 courses and assements are held regularly throughout the year in our purpose-built training centre.
Each course lasts two and a half days, with the assessment normally carried out on the last day.
The training courses are staffed by qualified, experienced people who manage deer professionally.
Each course is run with a minimum of 5 and up to a maximum of 8 candidates. This gives Greenlee its unique friendly atmosphere, as well as enabling us to run a properly focussed course resulting in high success rates.
If you have a group who want to take the qualification we can arrange a course, with dates to suit your group, either during the week or at weekends.
Candidates do not need to own a rifle - they are welcome to use the estate rifle facility.
The assessment day consists of five parts:
- Written assessment: 50 multi choice questions on all aspects of deer.
- Visual assessment: 20 colour slides identifying the 6 species of deer in the UK
Safety assessment: Simulated stalk, with rifle.
- Shooting assessment: Practical shooting test.
- Meat hygiene assessment: 40 multi choice questions on the large game handling regulations. This enables the award of trained hunter (large game) status to successful candidates.
Whilst all relevant information will be fully covered during the course, to gain the maximum benefit, candidates are expected to fully read the training manual prior to the course.
Cost of the course is £330.00 per person for this two and a half days course. This includes the training manual, tea/coffee breaks and a light lunch. Limited, high quality accommodation is available.
